We mourn the death of

Kalan Kawa Karim

Kalan Kawa Karim

Slain on Monday 6 September on Swansea Kingsway

BBC News

Karim often came to our drop-ins.  He was a close friend of players in our soccer team, Swansea World Stars.  We share the anguish of his family.

The team has observed a minute's silence at games played since the killing.

War which creates refugees and encourages hatred – cruel government policies which make many immigrants ‘illegal’, without rights, and which encourage resentment and fear of foreigners – newspapers which sell fear and loathing of asylum seekers every day – Karim is the latest victim of a UK climate of hatred.

Swansea is no worse than any other city for racist violence.  Our voluntary group has been supported for nearly four years by many individuals, congregations, groups and organisations in Swansea who resist the climate of hatred.  We say now: Thank You, good people, for your donations – and above all, for the time you have given to help make refugees and other newcomers welcome here.  They will continue to need your support and solidarity.  Now more than ever, we need people to come forward and join the group.

APPEAL

The All Wales Ethnic Minority Association has launched an appeal to help with the costs to return Mr Karim's body home.  Please make cheques out to "AWEMA Karim appeal" and send to Barclays Bank, 70 Kingsway, Swansea SA1 5JD or donate directly to account number 93356612, sort code 20-84-41. The account is being handled solely by the bank. Money donated will be paid directly to the company involved in flying Mr. Karim's body home. Any surplus will go to the Red Cross.
